Scribing for Emergency Management
OVERVIEW
After an incident, you will likely be interviewed as part of an investigation, aninsurance claim, an inquiry or, in a review by your employer. You may later berequired to testify in court, before a tribunal, or at an inquiry. Learning properdocumentation techniques will prepare students to professionally presentthemselves and to provide accurate information in these circumstances.Emergencies and disasters are high-stress situations where decisions need to bemade in minutes and the stakes are high. Emergency managers rely on strong,credible information to make decisions. The primary way to capture and retaininformation during disasters is by using scribes.
Scribing for Emergency Management prepares you for the integral role you’ll play in emergency management and how your efforts directly contribute to response efforts. You’ll be taught scribing methods and best practices and how to apply these skills in several training exercises.
AUDIENCE
- Chiefs and Management Team personnel of first response agencies such asFire, Police, Paramedic, Public Works;- Directors and staff of emergency preparedness at educational institutions;- Incident Management System (IMS) and Emergency Operations Centre(EOC) personnel including CAO and elected officials;- Members of emergency management program committees;- School board management personnel;- Health Unit and Health Services management personnel;- Members of emergency management program committees; and- Personnel responsible for emergency management programs within theirorganizations in the Private Sector and Non-Government Organizations.
DURATION
The course takes an average of 2 to 4 hours to complete, inclusive of an open-bookmultiple-choice exam.
